The northern European shelf as an increasing net sink for CO2

چکیده

Abstract. We developed a simple method to refine existing open-ocean maps and extend them towards different coastal seas. Using multi-linear regression we produced monthly of surface ocean fCO2 in the northern European seas (the North Sea, Baltic Norwegian Coast Barents Sea) covering time period from 1998 2016. A comparison with gridded Surface Ocean CO2 Atlas (SOCAT) v5 data revealed mean biases standard deviations 0 ± 26 µatm 16 along Coast, 19 Sea 2 42 Sea. used these investigate trends fCO2, pH air–sea flux. The are smaller than atmospheric trend most studied regions. only exception this is western part where sea increases by yr?1, which similar trend. does not show significant Here, variability was much larger expected trends. Consistently, were for an increase pace rise levels. calculated fluxes that regions net sinks CO2. Only southern emitted atmosphere. Especially sink strength increased during period.

Net Heterotrophy in the Amazon Continental Shelf Changes Rapidly to a Sink of CO2 in the Outer Amazon Plume

The Amazon continental shelf and adjacent oceanic area were sampled for inorganic and organic carbon parameters in order to improve data coverage and understanding of carbon cycling dynamics within this important region. Seasonal coverage of the Amazon plume on the French Guiana continental shelf further north, was provided by CO2 monitoring using a merchant ship sailing from France to French G...

Subtidal Cross - Shelf Circulation on the Northern California Shelf

Moored time series from the Coastal Ocean Dynamics Experiment (CODE), Shelf Mixed Layer Experiment (SMILE), Sediment Transport Events over the Shelf and Slope (STRESS) study, and Northern California Coastal Circulation Study (NCCCS) are used to study subtidal cross-shelf circulation over the northern California shelf. The northern California shelf, like much of the United States Pacific coast, ...

Rapid emplacement of the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province as a net sink for CO2

A significant net sink for CO2 in Tokyo Bay

Most estuaries and inland waters are significant source for atmospheric CO2 because of input of terrestrial inorganic carbon and mineralization of terrestrially supplied organic carbon. In contrast to most coastal waters, some estuaries with small freshwater discharge are weak source or sometimes sink for CO2. Extensive surveys of pCO2 in Tokyo Bay showed that the overall bay acts as a strong n...
